Pilates is a progressive system of exercises designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance both mind and body. Benefits include increased core strength, better posture and balance skills and more physical and mental energy. This class is recommended to those who have some experience with Pilates mat exercises and are able to transition to and from the mat.
A thick mat is highly recommended for class. Props (a stretchy band, small fitball, light hand weights, foam roller) may be used and beneficial to enhance the work.
Instructor: Harleigh Chwastyk has taught Pilates mat classes to Swarthmore students, faculty and staff for over 12 years. She is mat certified through Body Precision Pilates Studio in Rosemont, PA and has also taught at the Pilates Connexion in Swarthmore. She understands how to modify exercises for all different types of students and to communicate clearly what is needed to stay both safe and challenged in order to help students meet their own goals for movement
